While prepping for my Berkeley Haas MBA interview, I was stuck. Generic advice (STAR method videos, random mock questions) wasn't enough. I needed help crafting strong, authentic stories and tight answers-not just timed practice. Paying $300–500/hr for a coach? No thanks.

Then I found this Claude-based interview coach from Lenny’s Newsletter (I’ve followed the pod/newsletter for years). Noam Segal researched 30+ tech professionals, extracted what actually works, and encoded it into a plug-and-play Claude Code project.

Solid evidence base + professional coaching techniques baked in. I set it up-and it was game-changing. I used it to build, refine, and polish every single one of my behavioral stories and answers before I ever hit record on a mock or the real interview.

How it works

Each Haas practice session runs like the official interview: you complete a short device check, then answer 6 timed questions drawn from one of seven curated Haas question sets.

Within a set, the prompts are fixed so you can build real muscle memory, while different sets emphasize different themes such as career story, leadership, and school fit. Every question is mapped to a Haas category and a small set of bullet-point recommendations sourced from official Haas pages.

During each answer, your webcam records locally and speech-to-text generates a live transcript. After the session, the review screen shows your recording, a cleaned-up transcript, and the Haas recommendations for that exact question so you can compare what you said with what the school emphasizes.

What's new

Custom practice: Add your own questions and set prep/answer times. Same recording and transcription as Haas.

AI feedback (optional): Per-answer and full-session summaries via OpenAI. Only transcript text is sent when you opt in.

Privacy

All processing happens in your browser. Video, audio, and transcripts never leave your device. Closing the tab clears all data unless you download or copy it.

Troubleshooting

Camera not detected: Ensure no other app is using it. Try a different device from the dropdown.

Microphone not working: Check browser permissions. The level bar should move when you speak.

Transcription not appearing: Live transcription requires Chrome or Edge. On phones, offline transcription may be slower; for the full experience use a desktop browser.

Transcription failed for an answer: Your recording was still saved — use "Download recording" to keep it. For best results use Chrome or Edge on a desktop and ensure the page has finished loading the transcription model before you start.

Mobile: Recording and review work on phones and tablets. For live transcription and faster offline notes, use Chrome or Edge on a desktop.

Review screen labels

Question card "Skipped": No recording was submitted for that question. It does not mean the answer was "not good enough."

Session summary "Skipped (no valid reviews)": There was not enough usable transcript data for a reliable AI summary (for example, every answer had no transcript, very low-quality text, or a review error).

Per-answer "Transcript quality too low" / no AI insights: The transcript was empty, extremely short, or clearly corrupted. That answer is not sent to the AI, but you still see notes and can download the recording.
